Call for institutional nominees for National Teaching Fellowship (NTFS) and the team Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)
These awards recognise exceptional contributions to teaching and learning in higher education.
Encouraged Applications:
Nationally the following staff groups are under-represented in nominations for both the individual and team awards:
- Minority ethnic background staff
- Part-time or fractional staff
- Professional services staff
- Staff with disabilities
Application Process:
City, St George’s University can submit three NTFS nominees and one CATE team nominee. Interested staff should complete the expression of interest form for the relevant award by 5pm on Friday, 7th November 2025.
The initial process of review is that all expressions of interest will be reviewed and feedback will be provided for each of you by Friday 21st November so that you can then make any revisions suggested to strengthened/enhance your application. You will then be invited to submit your revised application for a panel to review and choose the institutional nominees.
The panel will select the institutional nominees (3 for NTFS and 1 for CATE) and will provide further feedback to develop your application for submission to Advance HE. The panel will be comprised of members of the University Senior Leadership Team and an external panel member with NTFS. The dates for submission to the panel and the panel date with feedback to individuals will be published within the next few weeks.
You will then be supported with the development of the full application which is due in to be submitted to advance HE Wednesday 11th March 2026 so will need to be completed and submitted to LEaDevents@city.ac.uk for Friday 27th February 2026 so the institutional statements of support can be provided and the applications submitted.
National Teaching Fellowship (NTFS):
Potential nominees should be able to demonstrate with outstanding and sustained examples:
- Contributions to enhancing student outcomes.
- Internal and/or external recognition of the impact of your work.
- Evidence of your Influence on the development of higher education learning and teaching practices.
- Ongoing engagement with your professional development as an educator.
- Impact of your own learning from professional development on student outcomes or your peers.

Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE):
Potential team nominees should be able to demonstrate with outstanding and sustained examples:
- How the team has enabled a change in practice for colleagues and/or students at an institutional or discipline level.
- Excellence in your team's approach to collaborative working.
- The team's impact on teaching and learning.
- Internal and/or external recognition of your impact.
