Learning and Teaching Funds

Every year LEaD offers funding to support learning and teaching development

Funding available for 2018 / 19

Education Enhancement Grant

Deadline for application: Friday 19th October 2018

Each year there is a fund for Education Enhancement Grants. You can apply for a grant if you have a development related to your teaching, learning and assessment that you believe will enhance student learning. This could be implementing a new approach to teaching or a new assessment activity.  You will probably engage colleagues and students in this development to gain their views and so they can work on this with you.

Alternatively, you may have a pedagogic educational research study you would like to undertake to evaluate teaching or assessment activity that you have implemented. (Please note funds cannot be used to cover staff time or buy out nor, to support personal research).

The focus for funds this year must be something to enhance student progression (including BAME) and/or student employability both of which link to the TEF metrics and strategies to support students achievement.

The funds you apply for can be used to:
*Pay students to undertake specific activities with you or run focus groups
*Hold a seminar with colleagues to take time out to plan and implement a new teaching, learning or assessment activity
*Pay for transcription of interviews
*Purchase small pieces of equipment such as transcribing equipment

In order to apply for a grant, you need to complete the application form which asks about your project but also how this fits with School/University priorities and requires you to gain agreement from your Associate Dean for Education as a project that the school supports. You will also need to consider how whatever you choose to implement will be sustainable beyond the end of your grant.

We will ask on completion of your development or research that you write a short report about the activity and you post a blog or video about your grant activity on the Learning at City blog

Future Development

Undertaking activities such as these is useful if you are wishing to apply for any level of HEA Fellowship and also if you want to engage in the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme in the future as these types of projects are those they expect to have seen individuals engage in.
